One of the secrets to getting the family to eat healthier is to just make snacks more easily available for all.

After all, it’s almost no effort to reach for the chocolate bar in the fridge, but you can’t quite say the same for healthy snacks like cut vegetables and sliced fruits.

So the obvious answer is to prepare them ahead of time! Making it a bit harder to reach for those chocolates and sweets but easier to reach for the veggies and fruits does wonder for the human habit! Here’s what I usually do:

Slice fresh carrots and celery into nice bite-sized chunks
Put these into their own containers
Add a covered bowl of healthy dip
Put them in front of the fridge
As for the sweets, I do the following:
Pack all of them into one plastic bag
Put them right at the back of the fridge, behind the stacks
of veggie containers

Then to convince my brother and mom to follow my example, I often take the container of fresh veggies with the bowl of dip out when we watch a movie in the living room. My brother especially would have to either eat the veggies or walk into the kitchen to get his preferred snack.

He was soon preferring the carrot sticks I’d cut. Heh.
